What's the difference between Photomator and Pixelmator Pro?

In short, Photomator is dedicated for ultra-fast photo editing workflows, while Pixelmator Pro offers all the tools you need to create designs from scratch. For a full rundown of the key features in Photomator and Pixelmator Pro, see our dedicated comparison page.

Do I need both Photomator and Pixelmator Pro?

I’m an existing Photomator user, do I need to pay again for Photomator for Mac?

All users who bought Photomator after August 18th, 2022 are eligible for multiple Photomator installs on Mac, iPhone, and iPad devices with a single license. After you’ve downloaded Photomator on a new device, you’ll need to restore your previous purchase to start using the app. To do that, open Photomator and tap Restore at the top of the purchase window that appears. If you run into trouble restoring your purchase, visit this Apple Support article for troubleshooting tips or contact Photomator support.

For all other users, we're offering special deals on the App Store for the first year of using Photomator, which unlocks it on Mac, iPhone, and iPad. All Photomator users can also continue using the app version they currently own and receive free updates in the future, regardless if they purchase Photomator for Mac or not.

How do I switch between the Photos and Files browsers in Photomator?

When using Photomator, you're able to access your images regardless of where they're stored. Photomator 3.3 introduced full macOS file system support to compliment workflows which don't primarily use the Photos library. With this integration, you can open photos from anywhere on your Mac (even on external devices!) by dragging and dropping them to the Photomator icon in the Dock, importing entire folders of photos by pressing + in the toolbar or simply dragging and dropping them into the folders section of Photomator.

You can also switch between the Photos and Files browsers on the fly by navigating to the dedicated button in Photomator.

The process is largely the same on iOS, all you have to do is tap on the gear icon when Photomator is in browser mode and you'll have the choice between the Files and Photos browsers there as well.

You can learn more about other awesome features that are coming to Photomator by checking out the official Roadmap.

Does Photomator support Family Sharing?

Yes! You can share your purchased copy of Photomator with your family members for free if you have a family sharing group set up on your App Store account. If you don’t have Family Sharing set up, visit Apple Support website to learn how.

I’m a Pixelmator Pro user, do I get Photomator with a discount?

Pixelmator Pro and Photomator are two independent apps, so users of Pixelmator Pro won't automatically receive access to Photomator for Mac.
